BONE

Ox bone is the traditional favorite of luthiers. That's because it's the bone that's mostly available. If sheep bone were readily available it would be the favorite as it's harder and whiter. Bone is about .5 MOHS harder than ivory, and actually serves the purpose better than ivory.

The bone we offer is from the water buffalo is is less porous than the typical ox bone.

If you have a special size you'd like we can special order it for you, with a minimum of 250 pieces.

Above heel cap inlay on guitar made by Tom Ribbecke, inlayed by Larry Robinson.

SHELL

For the time being we carry only Mother of pearl dots and slab in red abalone and MOP as pictured.  The Mop Slab is offered by the half pound, and the abalone slab is offered by the ounce.

Some vendors sell MOP of this quality and size (and amount) for well over $120, so this is a good deal. There are around 50 pieces of an average size of 2 square inches to a half pound.  At .060" the blanks are thick enough for use where radiusing is required.

Left, inlay artist Larry Robinson dropped by recently along with his personal guitar (made by local, Mark Johnson of MJ Guitars) but with Larry's handiwork on the mahogany back. More pics of Larry's work later.
